How can I start to understand guitar without lessons?

4th June 2010

I have lots of things after school, and I had to pause my guitar lessons until summer. I’ve only taken, like, five. The most I know is the pentatonic scale, blues scale, dominant chords, major/minor chords, and bar chords. How can I get better when I don’t have someone to teach me?

Well, at least you are getting somewhere. YOu can always go to this site and learn at your own leisure.

I believe you will gain immensely from this site whether it is soloing, chords, scales etc..

That’s kind of a tricky question. You don’t necessarily need a teacher, but you do need time. You indicate your problem is that you have a lot of things going on, which means you don’t have time, or rather, have other things that are more important to you going on. It might help to have something flexible to work with. You could join a guitar video lessons site like iJamplay.com, because you have access to the lessons 24/7, can learn at your own pace, and have things nicely structured for you to progress through. You could also just use google/youtube to search for stuff to learn. Or you could buy a guitar method book at a bookstore.

    Hello Happy,

It seems your too busy with your studies. Well, Happy, you can be better in playing the guitar by your own. All you have to do, is play everyday, in your vacant time. Then you can go to YouTube, and search "guitar tutorial". It can really help you in improving your skills in playing this instrument. And also there are lot of websites that could help you.

Look, You have already knowledge about this instrument, so all you need to do is more in application, I mean you have to play easy songs everyday. and when you think that you are already ready to play difficult songs, then go to the next step.

Hope this will gonna help you, if you have some questions, just drop me a line. Thank You
