Is it better to first completely learn guitar before starting any other instruments?

10th July 2010

I was thinking of trying to learn the keyboard or the drums, but am currently learning to play the guitar.

Should I focus on the guitar for now and wait to learn anything else?

some say that if you know how to play piano then learning how to play several other instruments comes easier. thats what my friend told me and he can play lots of instruments. I only how to play the guitar but when I started to learn to play the keyboard then plucking on the guitar came much more easier, so I think you should also try the keyboard

I would say start with piano, piano will help you get used to all of the notes and chords. Then move onto the drums (what I play). The drums will give you a sense of tempo, beat, and most importantly, rhythm. But if you really want to go with the guitar first, go for it. Do whatever feels right for you.

If you want to play the piano, play the piano. Learning the guitar will only marginally help you with the piano or any other instrument. (you’ll develop some finger dexterity and know about music, but that’s it)
