What lessons are included when taking electric guitar course?
I’m a self -taught accoustic & electric guitar player. Now my goal is to really improve my skills in picking & fingersyle in playing electric guitar. Meaning, I want to be really serious in playing, so in the future I can perform for a band.
But I need to know what sort of guitar course is good such that by taking the classes, I can continue to improve my known skills instead of starting from the beginning again like all the strummings etc.
Will it include learning about the scales?
Thanks a lot.
I would recommend lessons but not just to learn how to pick or fingerstyle but for the many other things that are involved.
No a good teacher wont make you go back to the beginning , he should work with you to figure out what you know and don’t know and will taylor your lessons to fit you.
Lessons should include all things music, From music theory to technique. He will watch you play and look for bad habits that you may not notice and help you to correct them.
Yes it should include learning about scales. That is part of the boring stuff called music theory. It will include how scales relate to chords and how to build chords from scales. How to know a minor chord from a major, etc, etc, etc, etc and allot more. this is all music theory

well u really don’t need to take a class to learn fingerstyle…. u have to just play some diferent music, the kinda music that will help you i flamingco music. its like mexican music, in this they use finger picking alot. another typ of music is jazz, smooth jazz to be exact. and it would really help you if you just go to google and find some jazz paterns, and also just watch youtube videos and watch there fingers, this is what guitar teachers do and then they teach it to you, so what your really doing is cutting out the middle man. I hope this helps, i know is dosn’t answer your question but hey ,i tried.

Let’s see…
When I got my (third) guitar teacher four years ago I had already been through two others so I knew a few stuff (fingerpicking, basic chords, etc.) Right at the beginning my teacher asked me to play something so he could get an idea on where to start my lessons with him. He then asked me what kind of music I liked and told me to make him a CD of songs that I wanted to learn. In addition to learning songs I want to learn, he gives me exercises and songs to practice that he picked out that cater to my specific needs. For example, I was having trouble getting my pick to the correct strings, so my teacher gave me an exercise to master so I’d get this problem corrected.
Scales will come with lessons. I know a few of the songs I chose to learn involved scales for soloing, so I got taught them.
So…your teacher will do the same things at the first lesson, then it gets different from then on.
