So you are a self- confessed musician?
Musicians across societies learned to play their instruments in either of the two ways. The first way is the formal music lessons where you sit in classes, read theories and practice the instrument you are studying. The other way is the informal lessons in which you either do self study or ask someone who knows how to play the instrument that you want to teach you.
Guitar playing is the most learned instrument because of its portability and importance in every musical genre. In addition, most of the guitar players learned informally. The only downside to this is that those who formally studied have more edge when it comes to musical reading.
However, learning to read musical pieces are easy especially because of the people who devised easier way to learn. One of which is the guitar tabs.
Guitar tabs are based on tablature which uses instrumental fingering. Guitar tabs are staff like written structure with six horizontal lines representing the six guitar strings. The top line is the highest E while the bottom line is the lower E. The number in the middle of the lines tells you what fret you will play. Look carefully on what string it is located and what number of fret should be played. The number 0 means an open tab- meaning you do not have to play it.
Other important things to remember are: when numbers are vertically aligned, it means that you should play it simultaneously. On the other hand, if the numbers are not aligned, it means that you have to play the chords one at a time.
