I am thirteen years old and I’ve learned to play the guitar in one month’s time. Don’t you think you could do it too?

If you think you have the talent for music, and would like to learn to play the guitar I’m sure I could guide you through because I did it in one month, and I’m only a thirteen year old girl.

You can play a chord in different ways. This is called voicing and it makes great sounds if you combine them to create your music. Discovering them one by one will be the most satisfying thing you can do for your guitar playing. Do try experimenting on them. It would lead you to be creative. It is the meat and core of all of your efforts.

Q: I would like to ask you how to set up amplifiers for different purposes. I use a Fender Stratocaster and an Epiphone hollow body electric guitar I use a Fender Deluxe 50 Watts all tube amp. I also have a Line 6 POD which I use for effects. Can you explain to me how to approach setting my amp bass, treble, middle, presence, master levels.

1). In order to get a clean bright jazzy sound like George
Benson, or Wes Montgomery with my Epiphone?

2). To get a clean country style rhythm sound with my
Stratocaster?

3). To get a distorted or overdrive sound for a guitar solo
similar to; for example Foreigner, or David Gilmore?

4). Also would be interested in other sounds such as metal.

My brother gave up on guitar because hes too darn lazy, so i thought i would give guitar a try like I’ve always wanted to. But money is a little tight right now and I cant afford lessons. Please give links if possible.
P.S. I have absolutely no experience with guitar except for maybe trying to play, just messing around.

Learn basic chords. Then learn songs which are made up of those chords by watching videos of the guitar playing on YouTube and use tabs from ultimate-guitar.com. After you master the chords, you can begin learning barre chords. After that, learn scales and theory.

I am going to join the school band next year, and I want to do Guitar, but I won’t be able to sign up until June for lessons. I’m brand new and I won’t know if i’ll have the basics down by September(when school starts). Do you think i’d be able to learn a few chords in two-three months worth of weekly lessons? Based on an average student’s speed.

You’ll be fine and know enough to sound good in that amount of time. If you can get lessons, that will help. Start doing what you can now, and practice just playing around with a few basics. Remember that it is all about repetition, so get as much practice as you can. You don’t have to go crazy, but if you can get 1/2 hour to 1 hour in, you will learn enough to get a few songs under your belt and impress your friends.
